Asset Categories |
The Asset Categories screen enables you to create asset categories. Asset categories define equipment with unique similarities. They are broader than equipment classes, but more specific than the different equipment types that are supported by the different equipment screens. You can use them to limit various codes by organization, such as Fleet, Transit (Bus), and Fire, or by high-level equipment types, such as Light Duty, Heavy Construction, and Landscape. Asset categories are suggested for diverse fleets.
Asset categories enable you to validate or restrict the codes that can be charged to equipment, such as task IDs, service status codes, symptom codes, and failure codes. Restricting choice lists ensures that only values appropriate to the asset display in the list. For example, you might track all your equipment units through the Fleet Equipment screen, but segregate your fleet between light equipment and heavy equipment. Once tasks are set up to support only appropriate asset categories, task ID choice lists only show the tasks that are appropriate for the equipment unit on the work order.
The following are some areas that are impacted by setting an Asset Category:
You do not have to assign an asset category for each equipment unit, so you may set up this data when it is convenient for you.
Asset category ID
Identifier of the asset category. This field is required.
Description
Description of the asset category. This field is required.
Automatic numbering of equipment IDs
Indicates whether equipment IDs associated with this asset category are numbered automatically. The options are:
NONE (default): Automatic numbering is turned off
CUSTOM: Automatic numbering is assigned a user-defined structure
Custom ID structure
Free-form text field in which you can specify a custom numbering structure by combining static text with one or more of the following tags. Required if the Automatic numbering of equipment IDs field specifies CUSTOM.
Replace [YR] with the current year specified on the Data -> Setup -> Options screen.
Replace [SEQ:] with a generated sequential number zero-padded to the number of digits specified. If you want a four-digit numeric ID that is zero-padded, specify [SEQ:4] as the format.
Replace [MYR] with the equipment model year.
The complete ID (i.e., [YR]-[SEQ]-[MYR]) must be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 20 characters.
Tip: Custom IDs may not include the following symbols: $ % / ! @ # ^ * ( ) + = { } ` ~ \` " \\ | > < ? , _
Custom ID starting number
This is the number that you can set to start your custom sequence when creating new assets. For example, if you set the custom start value as 0, when you create a new asset, the first sequence number will be 1.
Map symbology ID
The unique identifier of the map symbology for this asset.
Do not update status of associated components when creating or updating a work order
Check this box to turn off the relationship update process. This shuts off the relationship tree updates of work order status and SLA status for a work order, and will not update any component relationships in the work order.
Component relationship work order updates are updated in a hierarchical check system. If an item is not updated on the top level, a check is performed on the next level, and so on through the chain of the hierarchy. If any level check comes back with this field checked, the relationship tree is not updated. The hierarchy of checking for updates follows the path below.
