Printers - overview |
Key points of printer set up:
There are two types of printers, Standard and Label, and they define how the application communicates with the printer.
Printer IDs are defined on the Printer Devices/Queues screen. Printer IDs define the links between a printer type and an actual printer.
Users can have a default printer ID for a standard printer and a default printer ID for a label printer.
A label printer type also defines the label’s format, which includes codes that tell the label printer how to print the label. Labels for part receipts should be formatted differently and contain different data than part transfer labels or control labels.
When you define a printer ID, you select a printer type. When you define a label printer, you specify a printer type and a label type (e.g., bin label, control label, part receipt label). The same printer type can be combined with two or more different label types. The label type used is based on the label's context and processing.
