Skills |
The Skills tab enables you to specify the types of special skills that employees possess and the charge rates per hour for the performance of the skill. You can specify any number of skill types for an employee. Skill types are defined on the Data -> Shop Activity -> Setup -> Employees -> Setup -> Skill Types screen.
Tip: To limit the display of information in the grid and maximize performance, use the filter. You can sort on employee ID, employee name, assigned shop location ID, account ID, and whether the employee charges time, among other values.
The field in the top section of this tab defines the data that displays.
Employee ID
Unique identifier of the employee currently selected in the grid or that you are defining. This field has a list box. If the ID already exists, the employee name displays to the right of the ID.
Data in the fields at the bottom section of this tab specify the employee's skills and rates. All fields are optional.
Delete
To delete the entries in the fields to the right, place a check in this field and click Save.
Skill type
Special skill or training that the employee possesses. This field has a list box. This is used by labor rates, especially when calculating any overage charges for specific skills used during labor. For more information, refer to the Determining Labor Rates page.
Charge rate per hour
Hourly rate the shop charges for tasks that require the employee to perform the special skill type.
Primary
If this field has a check, the skill is considered a primary one. Employees are scheduled based on their primary skills before they are considered for other task requirements. This is useful if your organization has union rules that require that technicians perform the tasks or job functions for which they won the shift bid, but allows them to be scheduled for other tasks if there is no current work that requires their primary skills.
Exclude surcharge from multiplier
Check this option to apply exclusions separately by individually defined skills. The following example shows two different cases of the surcharge whether it is included or excluded from the multiplier.
When calculating the cost of surcharges, the system sums up all surcharges for skills on the Class/Task screen. If the skill type for the employee has Exclude surcharge from multiplier checked, the system adds the surcharge total after the multiplier has been accounted for. If it is unchecked, the surcharge total is added as it was before, before the multiplier. For example:
$18/hr: ((10+2)*1.5)*1=18 (for one hour of work) (option unchecked)
10 dollars an hour (base charge)
2 dollars an hour (surcharge)
1.5 (multiplier)
1 hour (of work)
$17/hr: ((10*1.5)+2)*1=17 (for one hour of work) (option checked)
10 dollars an hour (base charge)
2 dollars an hour (surcharge)
1.5 (multiplier)
1 hour (of work)
Note: When doing a reversal and the surcharge has changed, the amount will not be exactly the same as these are calculated each time.
