Printer Setup |
The Printer Setup tab enables you to specify information about the types of printers you use.
The field in the top section of this tab defines the data that displays.
Printer type
The type of the printer currently selected in the grid or that you are defining. To define a printer for departments that you want to receive automatic fax messages about the optional Motor Pool Module, define the printer type as FAX. This field has a list box.
Refer to the printer definition notes for label printers and multi-user environments.
The data fields at the bottom section of this tab define the selected printer's setup. Unless otherwise indicated, these fields are required.
Page width
Width of the paper in the printer. This field has a list box of 80 (8½" wide paper) or 132 (14" wide paper) characters per inch. If the printer type is FAX, do not specify a width in this field.
Printer control codes (decimal values)
Printer control codes for:
Standard print (10 characters per inch)
Compressed print (approximately 16.5 characters per inch) Compressed print is used to print 132-column reports on 80-column paper.
Tip: If the printer type is FAX, do not specify a code in this field.
These codes are decimal or ASCII numbers (not hexadecimal numbers). Refer to the Printer Codes topic. If you cannot find the correct codes in the printer manual, contact Technical Support.
Note: If
you only have one printer and want to specify whether a report should
print in compressed or standard format, define two printers with two
distinct names, but use the same device and set the paper width to
80 on one and 132 on the other. When you print reports, you are asked
which printer to use, and you can choose based on paper width.
You can also use this technique for other special print characteristics,
such as oversize type. Define another printer with a different name
and specify a set of printer control characters for both standard
and compressed print.
