Restrictions

The Restrictions tab, accessible if you have authorization to use the Query/Report Generator, enables you to specify the rules that determine whether a query or report is to include a row (or record) from a table. These rules are called restrictions.

See examples of expression statements for restrictions.

In addition to the Query/Report Generator, you can use FA Web Modules or any other reporting tool sold separately (such as Microsoft Access) that can attach to the database. Refer to the related documentation for these products.

The grid (top) section of this screen shows a list of existing queries or reports. If a query or report is highlighted, the restrictions for that report appear in the tab.

The area at the top of the tab section of the screen contains the restriction rule as you define it. Restriction rules are applied to each row of data to determine whether it includes the row in the query or report. You can specify simple or very complex restrictions (up to 800 characters including spaces and carriage return/line feeds) and you can include several condition statements. You can also use wildcard or partial value characters to increase the power of condition statements.

The area on the left in the lower part of the tab lists the Tables, User-defined Items, Operators, and Functions that you can use to build a restriction rule. As you specify items to include in the rule, they display in the top area of the tab.

For more information about condition statements and specifying rules for the query or report, refer to Building restriction rules.
