Warranty |
Note: Non-linear assets do not display on this screen. Use the Data -> Equipment Units -> Fleet Equipment screen.
The Warranty tab enables you to display and define bumper-to-bumper warranty information for a linear asset. If you pre-arrange extended warranties on linear assets, you can also use this tab to specify multiple concurrent warranty periods.
Tip: To limit the display of information in the grid and maximize performance, use the filter. You can sort on equipment ID, model information, class information, segment ID, to/from marker ID, and to/from offset, among other values. The list of searchable fields on the filter is extensive; use the scroll bar to view them all. If you specify a range, any record that crosses any part of that range will be displayed.
The Primary Information screen supports location-level access control, so you must belong to a user group with the applicable authorizations to make changes or updates.
The field in the top section of this tab defaults from the information entered on the Basic Info tab. The field is read only.
Equipment ID
Identifier of the equipment unit currently selected in the grid. This field has a list box. The equipment unit year, manufacturer, and model display to the right of the ID.
Tip: You can set a zoom button for this field to detect the type of equipment and display the appropriate screen. If you used Administrator Mode to add a zoom button, you will need to use it again to remove your user-defined zoom button for this functionality to work.
Asset type
The type of asset.
The Warranty information screen group in the bottom section of the tab defines the warranty information. Unless otherwise indicated, these fields are optional.
If at least one row in the group indicates that a warranty is in effect, the linear asset is considered to be under warranty, and the warranty status on new work orders is set appropriately. When a warranty claim is generated automatically, it uses the vendor ID on the warranty that is still in effect but closest to expiration. If a valid warranty is not found, the asset is considered not covered by warranty.
Control labels are printed for parts issued on work orders that include warranty work. For more information, go to control labels.
Delete
To delete the entries in the fields to the right, place a check in this field and click Save.
Vendor ID
Identifier of the vendor that provides warranty services for the linear asset. This field has a list box.
Tip: If the warranty has expired, the vendor ID need not be active.
Vendor IDs are defined on the Basic Info tab of the Data -> Setup -> Organization Structure -> Vendors -> Primary Information screen.
Expiration date
Date that the warranty on the linear asset expires.
Note: When you enter a vendor ID and the linear asset has an in-service date, this field defaults to the in-service date plus the warranty duration specified on the More Info tab of the Data -> Equipment Units -> Setup -> Equipment Types -> Primary Information screen.
Usage expiration
If the linear asset is under warranty, this is the usage reading (e.g., 1,500 miles) at which the warranty expires. If you leave this field blank or type a zero, the warranty expires on the date indicated in the Expiration date field.
Deductible
Amount of the warranty’s deductible (if any).
Warranty type
The type of warranty.
