Printer Devices/Queues |
The Printer Devices/Queues screen enables you to define the printers that you use.
Before you can define a printer, you must define the type of printer on the System Management -> Setup -> Printers -> Standard Printer Types or Label Printer Types screen.
The field in the top section of this tab defines the data that displays.
Printer ID
Identifier of the printer currently selected in the grid or that you are defining. This field has a list box. If the printer is already defined, its description displays to the right of the ID.
Refer to the printer definition notes for label printers and multi-user environments.
The data fields in the bottom section of this tab define the printers. Unless otherwise indicated, these fields are required.
Description
Description of the printer in the Printer ID field.
Printer type
The type of printer. This field has a list box. Printer types are defined on the System Management -> Setup -> Printers -> Standard Printer Types and Label Printer Types screens.
Label or standard
Type of printer (LABEL or STANDARD). This field is display only.
Device/queue name
Name of the printer device or queue. If it is a network printer, this field must include the complete network path. Maximum field length is 100 characters.
If the printer type is FAX,
the device/queue name must be the directory for which the fax server
has been configured, including the unique filename specifier, <UNIQUE>.FRG.
For example: \\NTSERVER1\SHAREG\FAXSERVER\FAXDATA\<UNIQUE>.FRQ
For more information, refer to FAX.DOC
in the FaxSrv directory.
If you specify WIN in this field, the Microsoft Windows print dialog box displays when you use the printer.
To direct all output for the printer ID to a disk file, type a valid disk file name (COMPUTER NAME\PRINTER NAME).
To direct all output for the printer ID to a COM port from your operating system, the port must be free of other devices. Make sure there are no devices currently plugged into the COM port. The device/queue name must be in uppercase letters with no spaces between the parameters. For example, COM1:9600:E:7:1.
Send output to client station
If this field has a check, the printed output is routed to the user’s workstation. Users can then display it on the screen or use your operating software's print management functions to route it to a printer.
Note: If this option is checked, jobs may not print as desired due to some browser issues. In some browsers, with this option checked, print files are sent to PDF instead of printing at a physical printer.
The disk file for the application server's file system must be specified in the Device/queue name field.
To print from a client workstation, place a check in this field.
To print from the application server, leave this field blank.
If there is a check in the For messages only field, it is recommended to leave this field blank. Functionality is not recommended for these two options (Send output to client station and For messages only) to both be enabled.
For messages only
If this field has a check, the printer is used for automatic message printing.
You can use the same printer to print both messages and hard copies. To do so, you must define two different IDs for the same printer (one ID to send messages to and one ID to send to printer queues for hard copy).
Message printing includes items such as service level agreement status change messages and parts receipt and transfer messages. The printer ID displays in the Printer ID list boxes on the Message Printers tab of the Data -> Setup -> Organization Structure -> Departments -> Primary Information and Data -> Setup -> Organization Structure -> Locations -> Primary Information screens. It does not display in the Printer ID field list boxes associated with Output destination fields when the destination is a print queue.
