Label Printer Types |
The Label Printer Types screen enables you to define printer types on which labels are printed, specify the type of labels printed, and set up the format for those labels. The combination of printer type and label type defines the specified label's appearance: the data included on the label and in what positions. Printer types for printer IDs are specified on the System Management -> Setup -> Printers -> Printer Devices/Queues screen.
The following label printers are supported: Intermec printers using the IPL programming language and Zebra printers using the ZPL and EPL programming languages.
Tip: Before you can print labels for parts, you must define at least one label printer in the system.
The Label Printer Types screen has one tab, Label Printer Codes.
Printer type
The type of label printer currently selected in the grid or that you are defining. This field has a list box.
See the printer definition notes for label printers and multi-user environments.
Label type
Type of label that the printer produces. This field has a list box:
PART RECEIPT LABEL: Label for parts being received.
PART RECEIPT WARRANTY LABEL: Label for parts being received which is based on the Part Receipt Label with the addition of Purchase Order ID and Receipt Date.
Note: If the classification of the Part ID suffix is warrantable, this label will be used when printing a part receipt. If the classification of the Part ID suffix is not warrantable or if the PART RECEIPT WARRANTY LABEL does not exist for the specified printer, then the standard Part Receipt Label will be used.
PART TRANSFER LABEL: Label for parts being transferred to another location. To specify how part labels are printed, go to the Labels tab of the Data -> Parts Items -> Setup -> Options screen.
BIN LABEL: Label for bins. To specify how bin labels are printed, go to the Data -> Parts Items -> Bin Labels screen.
CONTROL LABEL: Label for parts that were removed from a vehicle but need to be retained for warranty purposes or for rebuilding.
If YES displays in the Warranty field on the Basic Info tab of the Work Order Center screen, a control label prints when a part classified as warrantable is issued, regardless of whether that individual part is being replaced under warranty.
If NO or UNKNOWN displays in the Warranty field on the Basic Info tab of the Work Order Center screen, the Warranty field on the Tasks tab is checked for the task ID to which you are posting the part.
If neither of these conditions is true (i.e., an equipment bumper-to-bumper warranty is not in effect and there is no component warranty associated with the task), the following conditions are used to determine whether to control label prints:
The part is serialized.
The part is being replaced under warranty.
The part is classified as having a core.
A control label prints automatically if a part is being replaced under any of the aforementioned conditions. Other requirements for printing a control label are as follows:
A label printer type with a CONTROL LABEL type has been set up.
A printer device/queue has been set up to print the label printer type for your control label.
The printer device/queue is the default label printer for the logged-in user.
Control labels may also include the reason the label was printed (e.g., WARRANTY, REBUILDABLE, CORE, SERIAL). You must add this label code type to your defined control label type.
REBUILD PART LABEL: Label for parts that are being rebuilt. If a serialized part was rebuilt, includes the serial number.
Tip: You may combine the same printer type with more than one label type by creating separate entries for each combination.
Whenever a process needs to print a label, the correct definition is retrieved automatically from this screen based on the label type appropriate to the context.
Data in the fields on the bottom section of this tab enable you to specify the number of labels to print and also set up the print format used by the printer label type.
Number of labels
Number of labels of the specified type to print. Defaults to 1. To disable printing a specific label type, specify 0. Applies to all label types specified on this screen.
The fields in the screen group enable you to set up the print format used by the printer label type. These fields are required.
Delete
To delete the entries in the fields to the right, place a check in this field and click Save.
Code type
Control labels can include a reason the label was printed. You will need to add this information to your defined control label type. Code type elements include control of the printer; control of the placement of data titles and data items; and the reason the label was printed (e.g., WARRANTY, REBUILDABLE, CORE, SERIALIZED). To print each element in the appropriate location on the label, enter the appropriate code for the element in the Code string field. This field has a list box. The Code types topic describes the choices.
You can also add VMRS code and manufacturer part IDs to part labels in either a text or a bar code format.
To learn how to define the code sequences required to generate labels, read the label printer’s documentation.
Code string
Sequence of codes the printer requires to generate the correct output at the appropriate location on the label. For more information, read the label printer’s documentation.
