Test Elements |
The Test Elements tab enables you to specify whether certain types of data are allowed to be entered on a test result. You may also specify whether those types of data must be entered on a test result to consider the element completed.
Tip: To limit the display of information in the grid and maximize performance, use the filter. You can sort on test type ID and description.
The field in the top section of this tab defines the data that displays.
Test type ID
Identifier of the type of test. This field has a list box. The test type description displays to the right of the ID.
The fields in the bottom section of this tab enable you to specify which elements are to be included in the test results and specify additional details about the element, as applicable. Unless otherwise indicated, these fields are optional.
Delete
To delete the entries in the fields to the right, place a check in this field and click Save.
Sequence
Sequence in which the test elements display when test results are generated. Maximum field length is five characters. Defaults to 0.
Note: If a test type ID is entered and the existing sequence value is blank or zero, the Sequence field is set to row * 10.
Test element ID
Identifier of the test element included in the test type. This field has a list box. This field is required.
When the test type ID is entered on the Test Results tab of the Test Results screen to record test result information, this test element ID also appears.
Unit of measure
Unit of measure for the test element. This field has a list box.
Detection threshold
Minimum level at which the test equipment can detect a numeric result. Maximum field length is eight digits before the decimal and four digits after.
Allowable minimum
For numeric measurements that have an acceptable range, the minimum value allowed as a result of the test element. When a test result is outside the allowable range, the result is automatically marked as FAIL in the Result field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. Maximum field length is eight digits before the decimal and four digits after.
Allowable maximum
For numeric measurements that have an acceptable range, the maximum value allowed as a result of the test element. When a test result is outside the allowable range, the result is automatically marked as FAIL in the Result field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. Maximum field length is eight digits before the decimal and four digits after.
Test element description
Description of the test element. This field is display only. Test element descriptions are defined on the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Setup -> Test Elements screen.
Allow... / Required...
The following Allow and Required fields do not restrict data from being entered, but enabling or disabling them changes what is visible or required in the system. The following notes explain some of the configuration details:
Allow... enabled means the user should enter the result. If checked, the field will be visible from all interfaces in the system.
Allow... disabled means the system will calculate the result for numeric elements with minimum and maximum allowables defined. If unchecked, the field will not be visible from other interfaces throughout the system.
If Required... is enabled the user is required to enter a result. Allow... must be checked so that the field is visible if required is checked.
Pass/Fail can be auto-updated for numeric entries if Allow Result is disabled and a numeric value has not been entered.
If you wish to use the Numerical Value to determine PASS/FAIL, then neither of these options should be checked.
Allow numeric found
If this field has a check, you have the option of entering a value in the Numeric value found field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. You may enter a positive number, negative number, or zero. This field must be enabled for validating minimum and maximum values on the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Setup -> Test Elements screen.
Require numeric found
If this field has a check, you must enter a value in the Numeric value found field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. You may enter a positive number, negative number, or zero; you cannot leave the field blank. This field must be enabled for validating minimum and maximum values on the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Setup -> Test Elements screen.
Allow numeric adjusted
If this field has a check, you have the option of entering a value in the Numeric value after adjustment field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. You may enter a positive number, negative number, or zero. This field must be enabled (to enable validation with testing) for validating minimum and maximum values on the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Setup -> Test Elements screen.
Tip: If a measurement can be adjusted on the fly, you may want to use both the Require numeric found and Allow numeric adjusted fields. For example, if you want to track a measured tire pressure, enter the initial pressure in the Numeric value found field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. If the pressure was low and you added more air to the tire, enter the resulting pressure in the Numeric value after adjustment field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen.
Require numeric adjusted
If this field has a check, you must enter a value in the Numeric value after adjustment field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. You may enter a positive number, negative number, or zero; you cannot leave the field blank. This field must be enabled (to enable validation with testing) for validating minimum and maximum values on the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Setup -> Test Elements screen.
Allow qualitative
If this field has a check, you have the option of entering a value in the Qualitative finding field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen.
Require qualitative
If this field has a check, you must enter a text value in the Qualitative finding field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen.
Qualitative choice list
Add a qualitative option in this choice-list to include for test results. For more information on creating custom choice lists, refer to the Custom List Values screen.
Allow result
If this field has a check, you have the option of entering a value (either PASS or FAIL) in the Result field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. If a service request or work order should be created for a failed element, place a check in this field. If this field is not checked but a result value is available, the result will still display in the application.
Require result
If this field has a check, you must enter a value (either PASS or FAIL) in the Result field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen. If a service request or work order should be created for a failed element, place a check in this field.
Allow condition
Condition refers to equipment condition rating. An entry here will update the condition on the equipment unit.
If this field has a check, you have the option of entering a condition rating in relation to a test element in the Equipment condition rating field on the More Info tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen.
Require condition
If this field has a check, you must enter a condition rating in relation to a test element in the Equipment condition rating field on the More Info tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen.
Allow condition score
When this box is checked, you can allow a condition score for test results, but it will not be required.
Require condition score
When this box is checked, you can require a condition score for test results.

If this checkbox is checked, date and time are required for test results.
Custom label
This information only applies to the Web Modules platform. This is a field to enter a custom label for your test results. Custom label text overrides test element description and can be used to create custom descriptions for test element line items. This field has a 70 character limit maximum and can use mixed-case characters.
Safety related
If this field has a check, the test element ID is related to safety. If the Result field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen indicates that the test element failed (shown as FAIL), a work order is opened with the task ID listed on this screen. The test ID from the Test Results screen, as well as the test type ID and test element ID from this screen, are included as a comment on the work order.
Task ID
Identifier of the task that describes the work associated with this element of the task type. Required if there is a check in the Safety related field. This field has a list box of task IDs that have a check in the Active field on the Basic Info tab of the Data -> Shop Activity -> Setup -> Tasks -> Primary Information screen, which indicates you can post charges to the task.
If you specify an ID in this field and the Result field on the Test Results tab of the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Testing -> Test Results screen indicates that the test element FAIL[ed], one of the following actions occurs, depending on whether there is a check in the Safety related field.
If the field has a check,a work order is opened with the task ID. The test ID from the Test Results screen and the test type ID and test element ID from this screen are included as a comment on the work order.
If the field is blank, a service request is generated for the equipment unit. (Refer to the Data -> Equipment Activity -> Service Requests/Defects screen.)
Task description
Description of the task ID. This field populates automatically when a task ID is specified. This field is display only.
