How do I set up an Intermec printer? |
Use the Intermec printer to print bar code labels through a serial, LPT, or network (NIC) connection. You first need to set up the printer and computer to communicate with each other. You then need to set up FleetAnywhere, CommAnywhere, or RailAnywhere to use the correct printer codes.
Tip: If you attach an Intermec label printer to a client workstation, it limits printer access from other workstations and is therefore not recommended. If a workstation is shut down, for example, all printers attached to it are disabled. If you attach an Intermec label printer to a print server, it can accommodate multiple jobs and can remain in operation after workstations are shut down.
Step 1. Unzip and save the two files in Intermec.zip:
DOS command scripts: set1.cmd and set2.cmd (COM2 and COM2, respectively; substitute set1.cmd or set2.cmd [based on your com port] for setmode.cmd in the steps that follow)
File with Intermec printer commands: binlab.txt
Step 2. Connect the printer to either the COM1 or COM2 communications port on the computer.
Step 3. Turn off the printer.
Step 4. Reboot the computer.
Step 5. Move or copy the setmode.cmd file (from step 1) to the root of your C:\ drive.
Step 6. Open the setmode.cmd file in a text editor and edit it to point to the applicable com port (either com1 or com2).
Step 7. Save the file.
Step 8. Run the setmode.cmd file from a DOS prompt:
a. From a command prompt, type c:\setmode.cmd
b. Press Enter.
Step 9. Turn on the printer.
Step 10. Move or copy the binlab.txt file (from step 1) to the root of your C:\ drive.
Step 11. To test print, from a command prompt, type copy binlab.txt com1
Note: If you are using COM2, change the command to use COM2.
A successful test prints one label for the part NUTS AND BOLTS. It proves that the printer and computer are set up and communicating correctly.
Part labels and bin labels use different codes, so you must set up two printer devices/queues and make sure that each uses the correct label printer type. Make sure that you have successfully printed a test label before you perform these steps. You can set up multiple label types (e.g., bin label, control label, part receipt label) that use the same printer type.
Step 1. Start FleetAnywhere, CommAnywhere, or RailAnywhere.
Step 2. Go to System Mgmt -> Setup -> Printers -> Label Printer Types.
Step 3. In
the Printer Type field, select
the applicable printer type and click Prepare
For Copy .
Step 4. In the Printer Type field, type the applicable printer type.

Step 4. Select the Send output to client station checkbox.
Step 5. Click
Process .
You need to set up the printer ID to be the default label printer for users. Once you set up the printer device/queue to send the output to a TXT file, you need to direct all control label message printouts to correct printer device/queue.
